“Andrew Daley (AD): The fear of the unknown is huge. As an internal organizer at SHoP, that was something that we heard often: “It’s never been done before, why hasn’t it been done?” or, “There’s probably a good reason why that hasn’t happened.” But we were also hearing the question of, “Why the machinists?” If we start saying that, or “Why the auto workers?” or “Why this union?” it starts to devolve into a classist struggle. If we think about most unions, at this point, representing a wide breadth of people under a single moniker, then we can start to understand that part of that fear is thinking that we’re alone in all of this.”
