“The largest attempt to unionize public- and private-sector architects in the United States was made in the early twentieth century by the Federation of Architects, Engineers, Chemists, and Technicians (FAECT, sometimes pronounced like “fact”). FAECT documented their organizing efforts through a bulletin—twenty offset-printed pages with spot color published monthly from 1934 to 1938 and distributed to their readership of 7,000 to 8,000 members in over twenty major cities. Despite their prominence at this time and the contributions of major players in US modernism—Lewis Mumford, Frank Lloyd Wright, Percival Goodman, Rudolph Schindler—FAECT and its bulletin are relatively obscure today.”
